S\u00f3n 1,9 hect\u00e0rees de terreny per persona per conrear aliments, per fabricar teixits per a roba, per subministrar fusta i per absorbir residus.<\/p>\n<p>Un nord-americ\u00e0 utilitza de mitjana al voltant de 9,7 hect\u00e0rees.<\/p>\n<p>Ning\u00fa s&#8217;atreveix a confirmar el <strong>l\u00edmit de poblaci\u00f3<\/strong> que la Terra pot suportar; alguns ho xifren en una mica m\u00e9s de 15 mil milions de persones, mentre que els optimistes, com el Dr. Dieter Klinghardt, el situen en 32 mil milions.<\/p>\n<p>La superf\u00edcie s\u00f2lida de la Terra \u00e9s de 15.000 milions d&#8217;hect\u00e0rees, sobre les que vivim, el 2020, 7.700 milions de persones (el 60% es troba a \u00c0sia).<\/p>\n<p>La poblaci\u00f3 segueix creixent, per\u00f2 ho fa m\u00e9s lentament. La taxa de creixement va arribar al 2,1% el 1962 i des de llavors ha caigut fins a un 1,05%. Aquesta tend\u00e8ncia ser\u00e0 suficient perqu\u00e8 la poblaci\u00f3 mundial sigui de 9.700 milions de persones en 2050 i de 10.900 milions el 2100.<\/p>\n<h3>Demografia<\/h3>\n<p>A la fi del segle XIX vivien gaireb\u00e9 1.000 milions d&#8217;\u00e9ssers humans a la Terra. La preocupaci\u00f3 per la demografia va comen\u00e7ar llavors, amb les teories de Thomas Malthus ( \u00abL&#8217;exc\u00e9s de poblaci\u00f3 de les classes menys afavorides \u00e9s un problema per a la seva emancipaci\u00f3. La poblaci\u00f3 creix m\u00e9s que els recursos i pot produir-se una cat\u00e0strofe\u00bb). A la Xina s&#8217;ha promogut la pol\u00edtica del fill \u00fanic, i en general es promociona la planificaci\u00f3 familiar i l&#8217;\u00fas generalitzat de m\u00e8todes anticonceptius, naturals i artificials. L&#8217;esterilitzaci\u00f3 no ha tingut l&#8217;\u00e8xit esperat en llocs com l&#8217;\u00cdndia.<\/p>\n<p>En resum, s&#8217;espera que el 2100 la poblaci\u00f3 al planeta s&#8217;estabilitzi entre els 10 i 12 mil milions de persones. De tota manera, el l\u00edmit del que es considera sostenible per al planeta s&#8217;acosta.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00bfConv\u00e9 fer alguna cosa m\u00e9s?<\/strong> De moment ens trobem amb les controvertides activitats suposadament filantr\u00f2piques de Bill Gates, especialment les campanyes de vacunaci\u00f3 massiva en pa\u00efsos pobres.<\/p>\n<p>I amb atrevides extravag\u00e0ncies: l&#8217;empresari Elon Musk (Tesla) proposa colonitzar l&#8217;espai amb una primera etapa al planeta Mart. De moment llan\u00e7a sat\u00e8l\u00b7lits per a la instal\u00b7laci\u00f3 del sistema de telefonia 5G, la innocu\u00eftat per a la salut del qual no ha estat prou demostrada.<\/p>\n<h3>Menjar per a tothom?<\/h3>\n<p>Durant els \u00faltims dos segles s&#8217;han perfeccionat les t\u00e8cniques agr\u00edcoles, s&#8217;ha mecanitzat l&#8217;agricultura i s&#8217;ha adoptat l&#8217;\u00fas de fertilitzants i de verinosos herbicides, per a un sistema embogit de producci\u00f3 d&#8217;aliments que inclou enginyeria gen\u00e8tica. La ramaderia es converteix en intensiva i maximitza la producci\u00f3 convertint als animals en \u00abcoses\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>No tenim m\u00e9s espai per entrar a les importants conseq\u00fc\u00e8ncies ecol\u00f2giques, per\u00f2 podem preguntar sobre sostenibilitat: Quant es poden estirar els recursos naturals per seguir alimentant a una poblaci\u00f3 creixent? No obstant aix\u00f2, amb l&#8217;actual nivell de vida nord-americ\u00e0, la Terra nom\u00e9s podria suportar una cinquena part de la poblaci\u00f3 actual, uns 1.500 milions de persones.<\/p>\n<p>La bona not\u00edcia \u00e9s que, segons asseguren els autors d&#8217;aquest estudi, a for\u00e7a de reorganitzar la producci\u00f3 i introduir alguns canvis en la dieta, es pot alimentar 10.000 milions de persones de forma sostenible.<\/p>\n<h3>Ecosistemes i canvi clim\u00e0tic<\/h3>\n<p>Els ecosistemes de la Terra, dels quals els humans extraiem menjar, es mantenen gr\u00e0cies a nou pilars fonamentals, que el 2009 van ser definits pels cient\u00edfics Johan Rockstr\u00f6m i Will Steffen i podeu trobar-los f\u00e0cilment a Internet. Consideren que aquests pilars garanteixen l&#8217;estabilitat de la Terra i que no conv\u00e9 superar-los.<\/p>\n<p>Els autors han assenyalat que canviar el model de producci\u00f3 d&#8217;aliments far\u00e0 que els ecosistemes siguin m\u00e9s resistents davant el canvi clim\u00e0tic. No obstant aix\u00f2, en algunes zones, com l&#8217;Orient Mitj\u00e0 o Indon\u00e8sia, aquests canvis no seran suficients per estabilitzar aquells sistemes i caldr\u00e0 enviar recursos des d&#8217;altres zones per alimentar la poblaci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>Tot aix\u00f2 comptant que la<strong> temperatura del planeta<\/strong> no pujar\u00e0 m\u00e9s de 1,5\u00baC a finals de 2100, tot i que les previsions siguin en general m\u00e9s pessimistes.<\/p>\n<p>Un sofisticat estudi de Dieter Gerten publicat a la revista \u00abNew Scientist\u00bb ha demostrat quins d&#8217;aquests l\u00edmits estan sent superats per l&#8217;activitat agr\u00edcola i on est\u00e0 passant. Gerten \u00e9s investigador a l&#8217;Institut Postdam d&#8217;Investigaci\u00f3 per al Impacte del Clima (Alemanya). Segons el seu informe, l&#8217;agricultura redueix la biodiversitat (el que comporta la caiguda de les poblacions i la desaparici\u00f3 d&#8217;esp\u00e8cies) i desequilibra el cicle de el nitrogen, amb problemes d&#8217;aigua i de desforestaci\u00f3. \u00abNo haur\u00edem d&#8217;avan\u00e7ar m\u00e9s en la direcci\u00f3 de produir menjar a costa de l&#8217;entorn\u00bb, afirma.<\/p>\n<h3>Canvis per alimentar a tothom<\/h3>\n<p>\u00abQuan ens fixem en l&#8217;estat del planeta Terra trobem moltes raons per preocupar-nos, per\u00f2 tamb\u00e9 moltes per tenir esperan\u00e7a\u00bb, diu Gerten. \u00abFem servir massa s\u00f2l per a cultius i bestiar, fertilitzem massa i reguem en exc\u00e9s. Necessitem replantejar col\u00b7lectivament com produ\u00efm menjar. El m\u00e9s emocionant \u00e9s que la nostra investigaci\u00f3 mostra que aquestes transformacions farien possible que obtinguem aliments suficients per a 10.000 milions de persones\u00bb.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Tots sabem que l&#8217;ideal per a la salut, per als animals i per a la sostenibilitat del planeta, seria no menjar carn animal<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Segons les conclusions de la investigaci\u00f3, la meitat de la producci\u00f3 mundial de menjar viola aquests l\u00edmits. No obstant aix\u00f2, fent canvis geogr\u00e0fics es pot aconseguir que l&#8217;agricultura alimenti de forma sostenible a aquests 10.000 milions. Per exemple, aix\u00f2 implicaria reduir l&#8217;\u00fas de fertilitzants a Europa central i la Xina oriental, per\u00f2 expandir-lo \u00a0a l&#8217;\u00e0rea subsahariana i en l&#8217;oest dels Estats Units.<\/p>\n<p>La visi\u00f3 de Gerten \u00e9s convencional i a gran escala, per\u00f2 proposa accions \u00fatils, com l&#8217;abandonament de cultius en regions on el 5% de les esp\u00e8cies estan amena\u00e7ades i la reforestaci\u00f3 de camps on s&#8217;ha tallat m\u00e9s del 85% de bosc tropical. Tamb\u00e9 mostra la necessitat de reduir el consum d&#8217;aigua i l&#8217;\u00fas de nitrogen on s\u00f3n excessius i ampliar-los on encara hi ha marge.<\/p>\n<h3>Menjar menys carn \u00e9s m\u00e9s sostenible i sa<\/h3>\n<p>Tots sabem que l&#8217;ideal per a la salut, per als animals i per a la sostenibilitat del planeta, seria no menjar carn animal. Per\u00f2 el cam\u00ed ser\u00e0 llarg; de moment aquests experts consideren que l&#8217;alimentaci\u00f3 podria ser sostenible amb canvis m\u00e9s profunds. N&#8217;hi hauria prou amb emprar noves formes d&#8217;agricultura i reduir el malbaratament d&#8217;aliments, ja que actualment es llen\u00e7a al voltant del 30% del que es produeix.<\/p>\n<p>I amb <strong>canviar la dieta<\/strong>. Per exemple, proposen que a la Xina, on est\u00e0 augmentant el consum de carn, convindria rec\u00f3rrer m\u00e9s a llegums i verdures com a font de prote\u00efnes. \u00abAquest tipus de canvis poden semblar dif\u00edcils d&#8217;assumir, al principi. Per\u00f2 a llarg termini, els canvis enfocats a una alimentaci\u00f3 m\u00e9s sostenible no nom\u00e9s beneficiaran el planeta, sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 a la salut de les persones\u00bb.
