Els nanopl\u00e0sticos s\u00f3n imperceptibles a la vista humana i s\u00f3n capa\u00e7os de penetrar en les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules humanes i causar efectes nocius.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Nanopl\u00e0sticos y salut<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Vivim en un m\u00f3n enva\u00eft pel pl\u00e0stic.<\/strong> La seva versatilitat i estabilitat qu\u00edmica l&#8217;han convertit en un producte molt rendible, \u00e0mpliament utilitzat en nombrosos processos de producci\u00f3, per\u00f2 alhora tamb\u00e9 en un contaminant i, per tot aix\u00f2, de controvertida legislaci\u00f3. En descompondre\u2019s en diminutes nanopart\u00edcules, els pl\u00e0stics entren amb facilitat dins la cadena aliment\u00e0ria, s\u00f3n presents en l&#8217;aigua que bevem, en l&#8217;aire que respirem i en quasi tot all\u00f2 que toquem, de manera que l&#8217;entrada de nanopl\u00e0stics en el nostre organisme pot arribar a alterar el nostre metabolisme i provocar efectes no desitjats sobre la salut.<\/p>\n<p>Un estudi de revisi\u00f3 liderat per la Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona (UAB) i el CREAF publicat a\u00a0<em>Science Bulletin<\/em>\u00a0<strong>constata que els nanopl\u00e0stics afecten la composici\u00f3, la diversitat i la funcionalitat del microbioma intestinal<\/strong>, tant en organismes vertebrats com en invertebrats. Quan es modifica la composici\u00f3 del microbioma intestinal, en situacions d&#8217;exposici\u00f3 reiterada i persistent a nanopl\u00e0stics, sorgeixen alteracions en els sistemes inmunitari, endocr\u00ed i nervi\u00f3s . A causa d&#8217;aix\u00f2, l&#8217;estudi alerta que l&#8217;estr\u00e8s en el microbioma intestinal podria afectar la salut, tot i que encara no es coneixen prou els mecanismes fisiol\u00f2gics concrets d&#8217;aquestes alteracions en l&#8217;esp\u00e8cie humana.<\/p>\n<p>Els efectes sobre la salut de l&#8217;exposici\u00f3 als nanopl\u00e0stics s&#8217;han avaluat tradicionalment en esp\u00e8cies aqu\u00e0tiques de mol\u00b7luscs, crustacis i peixos. Els an\u00e0lisis in vitro recents, utilitzant cultius cel\u00b7lulars de peixos i mam\u00edfers, han perm\u00e8s analitzar els canvis associats a la pres\u00e8ncia de nanopl\u00e0stics en l&#8217;expressi\u00f3 gen\u00e8tica des del punt de vista de la toxicologia. La major part de vies neurol\u00f2giques, endocrines i immunol\u00f2giques d&#8217;aquests vertebrats s\u00f3n molt similars a les humanes, de manera que els autors alerten que alguns dels efectes observats en aquests models podrien aplicar-se tamb\u00e9 als humans. Con\u00e8ixer i analitzar el proc\u00e9s mitjan\u00e7ant el qual els fragments de pl\u00e0stics penetren en l&#8217;organisme i el fan malb\u00e9 \u00e9s fonamental, per\u00f2 tamb\u00e9 ho \u00e9s determinar de manera precisa la quantitat i tipologies de nanopl\u00e0stics disseminats en el medi. Per aix\u00f2 els investigadors remarquen no nom\u00e9s la necessitat de seguir estudiant els mecanismes i efectes concrets en models cel\u00b7lulars humans, sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 la unificaci\u00f3 de les metodologies d&#8217;an\u00e0lisi per dur a terme una correcta mesura de la quantitat de nanopl\u00e0stics present en els diferents ecosistemes.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00c9s important determinar de manera precisa la quantitat i tipologies de nanopl\u00e0stics disseminats en el mitj\u00e0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Mariana Teles, investigadora de la UAB, juntament amb d&#8217;altres investigadors com Josep Pe\u00f1uelas, professor del CSIC al CREAF, comenta &#8220;l\u2019article no pret\u00e9n generar alarmisme, per\u00f2 s\u00ed cerca advertir que el pl\u00e0stic \u00e9s present en gaireb\u00e9 tot all\u00f2 que ens envolta, no es degrada i ens exposem a ell de forma cont\u00ednua. A hores d&#8217;ara, nom\u00e9s podem especular sobre els seus efectes a llarg termini en la salut humana, per\u00f2 ja hi ha indicis de diversos estudis que descriuen alteracions hormonals i immunes a peixos exposats a nanopl\u00e0stics que podrien aplicar-se en humans&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h3>Invasiu i t\u00f2xic<\/h3>\n<p>L&#8217;article presenta les principals fonts ambientals mitjan\u00e7ant les quals els nanopl\u00e0stics arriben a el cos hum\u00e0 i resumeix com s\u00f3n capa\u00e7os de penetrar en el cos hum\u00e0: ingerint-los, inhalant-los ocasionalment o, molt rarament, incorporant-los per contacte amb la pell.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>En l&#8217;article s&#8217;alerta sobre la possibilitat que una exposici\u00f3 a nanopl\u00e0stico a llarg termini, pugui donar lloc a canvis impredictibles fins i tot en el mateix genoma<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Un cop ingerits, fins al 90% dels fragments de pl\u00e0stic que arriben l&#8217;intest\u00ed seran excretats. No obstant aix\u00f2, una part es fragmentar\u00e0 en nanopl\u00e0stics, capa\u00e7os, per la seva petita grand\u00e0ria i propietats moleculars, de penetrar en les c\u00e8l\u00b7lules i causar efectes nocius. L\u2019estudi constata que s&#8217;han descrit alteracions en l&#8217;absorci\u00f3 de nutrients, reaccions inflamat\u00f2ries en el revestiment intestinal, canvis en la composici\u00f3 i funcionalitat del microbioma intestinal, i efectes sobre el metabolisme i la capacitat de produir energia del cos, i finalment, alteracions en les respostes immunit\u00e0ries. En l&#8217;article s&#8217;alerta sobre la possibilitat que una exposici\u00f3 a nanopl\u00e0stics a llarg termini, acumulada generaci\u00f3 rere generaci\u00f3, pugui donar lloc a canvis impredictibles fins al mateix genoma, com s&#8217;ha observat en alguns models animals.<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;equip del qual forma part Mariana Teles (Grup d&#8217;Immunologia Evolutiva, IBB-UAB ) tamb\u00e9 ha publicat recentment un segon article analitzant els efectes dels nanopl\u00e0stics en peixos. Aquest estudi, fruit de la tesi doctoral d&#8217;Irene Brandts i que va ser liderat per Nerea Roher ha estat publicat a<em>\u00a0Environmental Science: Nano\u00a0<\/em>i analitza les conseq\u00fc\u00e8ncies d&#8217;una exposici\u00f3 a nanopl\u00e0stics per al sistema immune del peix zebra (un petit peix tropical usat \u00e0mpliament com a esp\u00e8cie model en investigaci\u00f3). Els investigadors constaten que els nanopl\u00e0stics es poden acumular tant en c\u00e8l\u00b7lules com en embrions de peix zebra, causant a m\u00e9s canvis en els nivells de gens rellevants en el funcionament del sistema immune de l&#8217;animal. Tot i aix\u00f2, la capacitat dels embrions de peix zebra de sobreviure a una infecci\u00f3 bacteriana no es va veure afectada per l&#8217;exposici\u00f3 a nanopl\u00e0stics. L&#8217;equip defensa la necessitat de seguir investigant en aquest camp, ja que la pres\u00e8ncia de micropl\u00e0stics i nanopl\u00e0sticos en els ecosistemes \u00e9s un tema d&#8217;extrema rellev\u00e0ncia ambiental i es necessiten respostes per con\u00e8ixer l&#8217;abast de les conseq\u00fc\u00e8ncies que aix\u00f2 pot tenir.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00das responsable<\/h3>\n<p>L&#8217;article de revisi\u00f3 reconeix que s\u2019estan provant diferents t\u00e8cniques per eliminar els nanopl\u00e0sticos de l&#8217;aigua, com s\u00f3n la filtraci\u00f3, la centrifugaci\u00f3 i floculaci\u00f3 amb llast de les aig\u00fces residuals, o els tractaments d&#8217;aig\u00fces pluvials. Encara que els resultats s\u00f3n prometedors, es limiten a part\u00edcules de pl\u00e0stic m\u00e9s grans i, per tant, a data d\u2019avui, no hi ha una soluci\u00f3 efica\u00e7 per eliminar els nanopl\u00e1sticos de l\u2019ambient.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Per resoldre el problema de la contaminaci\u00f3 pl\u00e0stica, les rutines humanes han de canviar i les pol\u00edtiques s&#8217;han de basar en decisions informades sobre els riscos coneguts i les alternatives disponibles.
