Members of IFOAM Organics Europe elected a <\/span>new Board for the 2026\u20132029 mandate<\/span> and appointed D\u00f3ra Drexler from \u00d6MKI in Hungary as President<\/strong>, together with Vice-Presidents J\u00e9r\u00f4me Cinel from Interbio Nouvelle-Aquitaine in France<\/strong> and Marian Blom from Bionext<\/strong> in the Netherlands.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

During the organisation’s General Assembly, the European organic food and farming movement also handed a <\/span>statement on the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP)<\/span> to European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Christophe Hansen, calling for strong and dedicated support for organic farming after 2027.<\/span><\/p>\n

D\u00f3ra Drexler, the newly elected President of IFOAM Organics Europe, said:<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>I am honoured to take on the role of President of IFOAM Organics Europe and to represent Europe’s organic movement at this important moment for agri-food systems. Organic is part of the solution to many of the challenges facing Europe today. By strengthening farmers’ resilience, reducing dependency on external inputs, supporting rural communities and delivering environmental benefits, organic contributes to a more competitive and secure future for European agri-food systems. Together with my fellow board members, I will work to ensure that organic is recognised and supported as a strategic asset for Europe.<\/span><\/em>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The statement supported by the General Assembly and handed to Commissioner Hansen urges EU institutions and Member States to maintain a high level of ambition for organic farming within the CAP post-2027.<\/span> In particular, it calls for:<\/p>\n

  • A clear long-term commitment to organic farming, ensuring stability and predictability for farmers and safeguarding support for both conversion and maintenance;<\/li>\n
  • Dedicated and comprehensive organic development strategy in every Member State, with objectives, funding and measures to strengthen organic value chains, advisory services, processing, investments, producer cooperation, promotion and market development;<\/li>\n
  • Fair treatment for organic farmers within the CAP, recognising organic farming as a legally regulated and independently controlled farming system that delivers multiple public benefits. Organic farmers should not be placed at a financial disadvantage compared with support schemes rewarding individual practices or approaches with less clearly defined environmental commitments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \u201c<\/span>Organic delivers exactly the kind of outcomes that the future CAP should encourage: resilient farms, reduced dependency on external inputs, vibrant rural areas and environmental benefits for society. Today, more than 438,000 organic producers manage over 18 million hectares across Europe, delivering environmental benefits while producing high-quality food and reducing dependence on external inputs. As policymakers shape the next CAP, these farmers must receive fair recognition for these contributions and should not be disadvantaged compared with schemes based on isolated practices. Organic farming is a comprehensive and proven system, and support policies should reflect that reality.<\/em>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

    As discussions on the future CAP and the next Multiannual Financial Framework advance, IFOAM Organics Europe looks forward to working with EU institutions and Member States to ensure that organic farming receives the support and recognition needed to benefit farmers, consumers and society.<\/span><\/p>\n
