In a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifoam-eu.org\/sites\/default\/files\/ifoameu_position_paper_agroecology.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new paper on agroecology<\/a>, IFOAM EU <strong>emphasises to consider organic and agroecology through their synergies<\/strong>, common principles and drivers.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-29359\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bioecoactual.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IFOAM.jpg\" alt=\"Organic movement calls for agroecology to be at the heart of the EU strategy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"794\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bioecoactual.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IFOAM.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.bioecoactual.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IFOAM-768x508.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bioecoactual.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IFOAM-696x461.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.bioecoactual.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IFOAM-1068x707.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/www.bioecoactual.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IFOAM-635x420.jpg 635w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>IFOAM EU\u2019s President Jan Plagge\u00a0 states that: \u201c<strong>Agroecology should be the new horizon\u00a0 of the EU farming policy and of the upcoming Farm to Fork strategy<\/strong>\u201d. IFOAM EUwelcomes that the Commission is developing a systemic \u2018farm to fork\u2019 strategy on sustainable food along the whole supply chain. It is an opportunity to make our food system truly sustainable, building on the transformative vision brought by agroecology and on the successes of organic farming. Organic and agroecology are part of the solution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and to store more carbon in soils. They can make our farming systems more resilient to extreme weather events and contribute to halt the collapse of European and global biodiversity, of which intensive farming is largely responsible for.<\/p>\n<p>Jan Plagge added that \u201c<strong>agroecology is a transformative concept that should not justify &#8216;business as usual&#8217;<\/strong>. IFOAM EU\u2019s vision of agroecology is based on the principles of organic farming, it should lead to a drastic reduction of the use of pesticides in Europe, to the regeneration of soils and to the reinforcement of farmers autonomy and economic well-being. It is not compatible with the use of GMOs or glyphosate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The organic movement sees itself as a central part of the agroecology dynamics in Europe. Organic farmers put agroecology in practice on the ground everyday, organics is a powerful social movement that brings closer food operators to consumers, and the organic movement is driving the research agenda to make innovation socially responsible and up to the challenges of climate change and biodiversity preservation. <strong>Globally, millions of small farmers use organic practices without being certified as organic<\/strong>.
