IFOAM Organics Europe<\/strong> welcomes the adoption of the Nature Restoration Law<\/strong> by Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) today.<\/p>\n

Jan Plagge<\/strong>, IFOAM Organics Europe’s President, said: “This positive vote on nature restoration gives hope that Europeans can collectively make agriculture better for nature. Organic farming is the proof that we can produce enough food while preserving biodiversity, soil and water, and there is no reason to polarize nature protection versus agriculture.”<\/p>\n

He added: “MEPs who voted against nature restoration are not defending farmers, they are preparing a harder future and are making our food systems more vulnerable. The sterilisation of our European countryside is happening now, with toxic pesticides and habitats destruction leading to massive losses of birds’ and insects\u2019 populations. Our survival and food security depend on healthy ecosystems. Farmers, nature, and our future should not be taken hostage by politicians playing at culture wars.”<\/p>\n

The organic food and farming movement had sent a letter to MEPs ahead of the vote<\/a><\/strong>, calling them to vote in favour of nature restoration.<\/p>\n
