This year\u2019s winners are various actors from the European organic sector each representing excellence along the organic value chain. The EU Organic Awards also mark the celebration of <strong>EU Organic Day<\/strong> launched by the European Parliament, the Council, and the European Commission in 2021.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-82457 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bioecoactual.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/news-eu-organic-awards.jpg\" alt=\"EU Organic Awards winners\" width=\"991\" height=\"660\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bioecoactual.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/news-eu-organic-awards.jpg 991w, https:\/\/www.bioecoactual.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/news-eu-organic-awards-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bioecoactual.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/news-eu-organic-awards-696x464.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.bioecoactual.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/news-eu-organic-awards-631x420.jpg 631w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 991px) 100vw, 991px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This year, <a href=\"https:\/\/agriculture.ec.europa.eu\/news\/finalists-announced-2023-eu-organic-awards-2023-07-18_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">24 candidates<\/a> were shortlisted from almost 100 applications from all over the European Union. The EU Organic Awards scheme comprises 7 categories and 8 individual awards. <strong>They acknowledge excellent, innovative, sustainable and inspiring projects producing real added value for organic production and consumption<\/strong>. The awards are jointly organised by the European Commission, the European Economic and Social Committee, the European Committee of the Regions, COPA-COGECA and IFOAM Organics Europe, with the support of the European Parliament and the Council.<\/p>\n<h2>Meet the eight winners<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Best organic farmer (female):<\/strong> Ms Clara Benito Pacheco from Spain<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best organic farmer (male):<\/strong> Mr Thomas Moschos from Greece<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best organic region:<\/strong> Burgenland region in Austria<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best organic city:<\/strong> Vienna in Austria<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best organic bio-district:<\/strong> Idanha-a-Nova in Portugal<\/li>\n<li><strong>Best organic food processing SME:<\/strong> the Merry Mill from Ireland<\/li>\n<li><strong> Best organic retailer:<\/strong> Gut Wulksfelde from Germany<\/li>\n<li><strong> Best organic restaurant\/food service:<\/strong> Luftburg &#8211; Kolarik im Prater from Austria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Following the ceremony, <strong>IFOAM Organics Europe<\/strong>\u2019s President, <strong>Jan Plagge<\/strong>, celebrated the winners: &#8220;The EU Organic Awards showcase the organic supply chain&#8217;s role in a sustainable agrifood system, in line with the goals of the EU Farm to Fork and Biodiversity strategies. As part of IFOAM Organics Europe, I commend the winners for illustrating organic&#8217;s transformative potential. Their achievements spotlight organic&#8217;s growing significance and its alignment with the European Organic Action Plan. Congratulations to all participants! May their endeavours inspire a resilient and holistic approach to food and farming, addressing today&#8217;s pressing challenges, from food security to the biodiversity and climate crises.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong> Eduardo Cuoco<\/strong>, <strong>IFOAM Organics Europe<\/strong>\u2019s Director, adds that \u201cCongratulations to the winners, and all those shortlisted!
