The European Organic Congress 2024<\/strong> will take place on 10-12 September<\/strong> in\u00a0 Budapest<\/strong>, Hungary. The organization invites the participants to join this year\u2019s Congress to discuss key policy topics, engage in the organic discourse with leading policymakers, broaden professional networks with like-minded individuals, discover the sector\u2019s developments.<\/p>\n

The European Organic Congress 2024 program<\/h2>\n

Sessions scheduled for 10 and 11 September <\/strong>will provide attendees with the opportunity to interact with and benefit from the knowledge and expertise of high-level speakers and moderators<\/strong>\u00a0on policy developments in organic.<\/p>\n

Day one: 10 September<\/h3>\n

The program will kick of with welcoming remarks by the President of IFOAM Organics Europe, Jan Plagge. At 14:30, in the panel session ‘Building a common vision for the future of food & agriculture’<\/strong>, high-level speakers will discuss the priorities of the new political mandate, aiming to imagine a common vision for the future of agriculture that addresses the social, environmental and economic crises of today.<\/p>\n

J\u00fcrn Sanders, Chairman of FiBL Switzerland and President of FiBL Europe, will explore organic farming income and farm profitability, even in times of turmoil and inflation, in the keynote ‘Organic farming economics: A profitability analysis’<\/strong>. Comparative analyses between organic and conventional farming will be addressed.<\/p>\n

Congress day one will end with the panel session: ‘A CAP fit for the future: Potential and challenges to steer the transition to a sustainable agri\u2013food system’<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Dive into lively discussions on making Europe more organic, share knowledge and get inspired from the best practices<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Day two: 11 September<\/h3>\n

Organic experienced a slower growth in 2023 and has shown signs of recovery already at the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. What does the most recent data say about organic? Day two will start with the Market review 1: European organic market developments, <\/strong>by Lee Holdstock (Soil Association Certification) and D\u00f3ra Drexler (\u00d6MKi), followed by Market review 2: Unveiling Market Potentials in Eastern Europe<\/strong>, by D\u00f3ra Drexler.<\/p>\n

At 11:00, the panel session: “Spotlight & visibility in 2024: how to promote and communicate about organic” <\/strong>will look into how to communicate about and increase the visibility of organic agriculture and products in 2024, by making use of innovative and fresh approaches.<\/p>\n

This will be followed by the panel session: “Patents and NGT deregulation – What’s at stake for the European breeding sector?”<\/strong>\u00a0which will dive into the issue of intellectual property rights and patents on genetic material in connection to the new legislative proposal\/framework on ‘New Genomic Techniques’ and implications for the European organic breeding sector.<\/p>\n

After lunch, breakout sessions<\/strong> will take place. Breakout session 1.1: ‘Strengthening the bargaining power in the production chain’\u00a0<\/strong>will explore how the organic movement is positioning itself in the crucial issue of the role of farmers in the agri-food chain, following the fairness principle of organic farming.<\/p>\n

The European Organic Congress 2024 will take place on 10-12 September in\u00a0 Budapest, Hungary<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Meanwhile, Breakout session 1.2: ‘Research and Innovation networks and partnerships’<\/strong> will focus on the AGROECOLOGY Partnership and Soil Mission and Network(s) \/ organic living labs, explaining why these initiatives have an advantage now in light of the Partnership and Mission, presenting their aims, plans and opportunities to join. After a break, it will be the time for Breakout session 2.1: ‘Organic plant breeding’<\/strong> and Breakout session 2.2: ‘Climate resilience’<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The end of this year marks a real milestone in the evolution of the EU organic regulation, as with the implementation of the new system for imports the legislative framework will be fully applied. The presentation ‘The EU Organic Regulation’s role in organic’s future’\u00a0<\/strong>will assess the achievements with the new set of regulations, and whether they serve the organic sector to answer to future challenges and societal and sustainability expectations. The congress will end at 17:00, after the closing remarks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Day three: 12 September<\/h4>\n

On September 12 participants have the option to attend an excursion<\/strong>\u00a0to discover some innovative projects committed to a more organic future.<\/p>\n

This event is organised by\u00a0IFOAM Organics Europe <\/strong>and co-financed by the LIFE programme of the European Union, under the under the under the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).<\/p>\n
