In the heart of Andalusia, citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges, mandarins and grapefruit grow in abundance, as well as avocados, mangoes and other subtropical fruits. Tapping into this natural bounty, an ethical initiative that connects local farmers with committed consumers, has emerged in a picturesque village in Malaga: GreenLand Organic.

A project born out of respect for the land and a passion for sustainable farming

«Since childhood, I worked in the family business, a pioneer in organic citrus farming, where I learned the secrets of this noble craft. As I grew older, my interest in agriculture and sustainable environmental care deepened, leading to the creation of this project. Our goal is to transform the way agricultural products are perceived and consumed by offering a direct, ethical alternative that values the hard work of those who cultivate the land,» explains Antonio González Ruiz de Mier, founder of GreenLand Organic.

Throughout his journey as a farmer, Antonio realized that relying on large companies and middlemen often doesn’t fairly reward the effort required for organic production. This prompted him to offer his products—along with those of family and friends who are also farmers—directly to consumer associations, small shops, and local supermarkets that appreciate the value of agricultural labor and crop quality. «We want every consumer to know who is behind each product they buy and to be certain that it has been cultivated with dedication and respect for nature,» he adds.

Fresh produce without intermediaries

«The impact of the pandemic showed us the importance of diversifying our market. Although organic product sales were booming before, domestic demand has slowed in recent years, which drove us to explore exports. We’ve partnered with other local producers to broaden our offerings, including products like dragon fruit, passion fruit, and nuts, strengthening our project,» the founder notes.

GreenLand Organic currently supplies consumer associations, grocery stores and small intermediaries in Spain, France and Belgium. In the future, it aims to expand into small chain shops and to explore markets such as Germany and Switzerland.

«When consumers buy our products, they’re not only getting fresh, organic food, but they’re also supporting local farmers who receive a fair price for their work. Additionally, we give them the opportunity to get to know the origins of what they consume, inviting them to visit our farms and see firsthand how we grow each of our products with dedication and respect,» the founder adds.

«GreenLand Organic is not just a company; it’s a link between those who cultivate with passion and those who value the freshness and origin of the food that reaches their table. We want our consumers to know exactly where their products come from and enjoy the peace of mind that there are no middlemen inflating costs or distorting the process,» concludes Antonio González Ruiz de Mier.
