Carrefour is strengthening its position in the French organic food market with the integration of the 15 stores belonging to the organic retail chain Le Grand Panier Bio. The acquisition was carried out through So.bio, an organic supermarket chain that has been part of the Carrefour Group since 2018.

Le Grand Panier Bio was founded in 1997 in Clermont-Ferrand as a network of independent, family-run organic stores located mainly in the Auvergne and Brittany regions.

The deal will allow So.bio to increase its store network by 20% and double its number of franchised locations. So.bio currently operates 85 stores across the country and is expected to end 2025 with the addition of 19 new stores, according to local French media.

With this move, Carrefour is accelerating its positioning in the organic market through its three brands— So.bio, Bio c’ Bon, and Le Grand Panier Bio — and now ranks fourth among the major players in the French organic retail market, led by Biocoop, Naturalia, and La Vie Claire.
