It is getting closer and closer for the ‘Free From‘ community to hold its meeting in Barcelona. On 7 and 8 June 2022, the Gran Vía Fira de Barcelona exhibition centre will be the meeting point for the ninth edition of the Free From Food & Health Ingredients Expo, an international benchmark for news and trends in ‘Free From’, organic, vegan, functional, healthy and ingredient products.

The international event, organised by Expo Business Communications, will unveil the latest innovations and market predictions in organic, vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free, meat-free and allergen-free food products and supplements, while providing valuable market insights relevant to each of the five exhibition segments.

Barcelona: the perfect enclave

In this sense, Free From Food & Health Ingredients Expo is presented as a key strategy to respond to current dietary needs. And Barcelona is the perfect place to host the event. “The growing demand for organic, free from, vegan and functional by retail and foodservice in Iberia, as well as Spain’s centrical position in Europe in organic production, certainly turn Fira de Barcelona into a very convenient and serious venue in which we can formally serve our Free From community”, says Ronald Holman, director of Free From Food & Health Ingredients. “Food professionals in Spain have shown us that they are great partners when it comes to the offering and consumption of healthy food that improves the quality of life, and Barcelona is a very attractive city to do business and enjoy the overall business experience”, he adds.

Over two days, Barcelona will host a renewed edition of the Free From Food & Health Ingredients Expo, in which producers, brand owners, researchers, food professionals, buyers and dietitians will be able to discover and take advantage of new trends and opportunities in this growing sector.

Professional meetings, the main attraction

The 2022 edition is packed with new features, both structurally and in terms of the activities planned. In this regard, it is worth mentioning the renewed programme of activities, focused on promoting and strengthening professional meetings. “We look forward to delighting our high-calibre visitors with the active presence of hundreds of pioneering international brands and industry experts during the packed two-day conference programme,” says Holman.

Among the highlight events, participants will be able to enjoy conferences and seminars on a variety of topics, as well as participate in various networking and matchmaking activities, where they will be able to connect with other professionals to close deals and grow their business relationships. In addition, at the customised round tables visitors will be able to join experts and keynote speakers for in-depth conversations and discussions, as well as to engage in debates on some of the biggest obstacles facing the sector and to create strategies together on the spot. “We are fully committed to the European Commission’s target of achieving the 25% organic soil by 2030. That is why we are offering expert speakers at our conferences to promote and inform on this important issue,” says Ronald Holman. Registration for these activities will be open in the coming weeks. In parallel, new professional spaces will be set up, such as the V-label Area, an exclusive showcase of certified vegan products, and the new international projection pavilions.

Free From Expo Packaging

In addition, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the latest trends and developments in the biodegradable and sustainable packaging sector at the Free From Expo Packaging, an exhibition focusing on sustainable packaging, which for the first time will accompany the trade event. There, food manufacturers, the retail trade and the HORECA channel will be able to discover new biodegradable materials, such as cardboard, paper or improved plastics, as well as the innovative solutions that the packaging world is developing to make a difference to their business.

Good prospects for participation and other international events

Despite the Covid-19 crisis, the organisers remain optimistic about attendance: the 9th edition is expected to bring together up to 8,500 visitors and 350 producers, manufacturers and key figures from the international industry over two days in Barcelona. They are banking on the good precedent of the success of face-to-face trade fairs, such as the last edition held in Amsterdam on 23 and 24 November 2021, which took place safely and was attended by more than 4,000 professionals from the international food sector, despite the restrictions.

At the same time, Expo Business Communications also has its sights set on the following international editions of the events: Free From Food Asia, to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, between 14 and 16 September 2022, and Free From Food Amsterdam, scheduled for 22 and 23 November 2022.
