Raúl Anta is the Co-Founder & CTO of REFIX, the only 100% natural isotonic drink designed to hydrate and replenish the minerals lost during training or a long night out. With a degree in Biology and a master’s degree in Protected Natural Spaces from the UAM, Raúl has worked in the world of environmental conservation, especially in relation to protected marine reserves, and is also passionate about healthy nutrition.

«Bringing these two concepts together, we decided to extract an unlimited resource from a marine reserve, seawater, to create one of the healthiest drinks on the market, REFIX, which intrinsically revalues the potential of marine reserves,» explains Raúl.
The history of REFIX began in 2017. Why did you decide to go for a 100% natural and additive-free production?
My brother and I knew about the benefits of seawater and we consumed it every day. We also knew that there were companies such as Laboratoires Quinton that had been marketing it in the pharmaceutical sector for many years with excellent results. But we noticed that in the hydrating and isotonic drinks sector, the ingredients were exactly the same as a Coca Cola: water, sugar, preservatives and colourings, stabilisers, etc., and only one or two or three mineral salts were added, but of synthetic origin.
That’s when we came up with an idea, and we found an unmet demand in the market: there was no really healthy hydrating and isotonic drink on the market. As I am a biologist and my brother is a graphic designer, we pooled our knowledge to shape an idea that took us two years to develop.
What sets REFIX apart from other isotonic drinks on the market?
The key ingredient of REFIX is 20% seawater that we extract from a protected marine reserve in Costa da Morte, Galicia, whose water has the best quality in the world, something that is certified by our analyses every week.
Seawater has up to 78 mineral salts (also called electrolytes), the 4 most abundant being sodium, magnesium, chloride and potassium, which are precisely the 4 most abundant minerals in our blood, allowing our entire nervous and muscular system, including the mind, to function properly.
This plus the fact that it is sugar-free, packaged in a glass bottle, and certified organic, which guarantees no pesticides, hormones or genetically modified organisms, make it the healthiest drink on the market in terms of hydration.
«Minerals, proteins and amino acids are the engine of our body»
How do electrolytes contribute to the recovery and vitality?
Everyone knows that distilled water (water without minerals) cannot be drunk. I remember when my mother was ironing clothes and used a bottle of distilled water to refill the iron, and she would say to me: ‘this is distilled water, you can’t drink it, it’s only for the iron’. Today’s water brands are arguing just the opposite: that water with low mineralisation is good. If it were so good, wouldn’t it be better to drink distilled water?
Minerals, proteins and amino acids are the engine of our body. If there is a deficiency of any of the three, the chemical processes necessary for life cannot be generated and our hormones cannot be produced correctly, leading to an imbalance that will result in some kind of pathology in the long term. Whoever says that sodium is bad does not know that without sodium there is no neuronal electrical transport. For some reason sodium is by far the most abundant mineral in our body.

Can anyone benefit from REFIX?
This is a very common and very good question. I always say: ‘Anyone can drink a Coke, so how can anyone not drink a REFIX? That said, anyone can and should drink 100-200ml of seawater (that’s what a bottle of REFIX contains) every day, to ensure proper daily mineralisation.
Why are we entering a “new era of hydration”?
There is still a lot to be done. Many athletes still prefer to buy a sugar-laden Powerade at 1 euro per litre without understanding that they are victims of strong advertising by the beverage lobbies. We need the market to be flooded with brands of seawater drinks to normalise its consumption, something that is already happening little by little with more and more producers.
From the Atlantic Ocean to the whole world. Where can we find REFIX?
The easiest way is through our website refixyourself.com or our Amazon store, but also in physical shops like El Corte Inglés Gourmet, Herbolario Navarro, or any pharmacy in Spain.
