The Italian fruit and vegetable market closed the first half of 2025 with signs of recovery, but it is the organic sector that is setting the pace. According to data from Cso Italy, between January and June, households purchased 286,800 tons of organic fruits and vegetables, representing a +15% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Spending reached 168 million euros, up +29%.

The comparison with the conventional market is clear: the total fruit and vegetable market grew only +4% in volume and +8% in value, with 2.68 million tons purchased for a total of 6.95 billion euros.
June further strengthened this trend: sales of organic fruits and vegetables recorded a +24% increase in volume (over 63,000 tons in total), with total spending of 168 million euros (+29%). Organic penetration, now reaching 76% of Italian households, demonstrates that sustainability has become a structural criterion for choice rather than a niche one.
The organic segment is therefore confirmed as the most dynamic and highest value-added, set to drive the recovery of fruit and vegetable consumption in the post-crisis period.
