Cannabidiol – better known as CBD – is having a huge impact.  From skin care products to bottled water, gummy sweets to supplement sprays, this hemp-derivative is making its way into more and more products at a rapid rate of development.  The best of these can be discovered at this month’s Natural & Organic Products Europe trade show, which takes place at London ExCeL on 7-8 April.

Event director Carol Dunning explains: “Increased recognition of the medical benefits of CBD – aiding everything from chronic pain and inflammation, to anxiety and insomnia – means we have seen a surge in its popularity at the show this year.  For retailers and buyers wanting to tap into the trend there’s so much to discover – CDB products are present across health, beauty and food, plus we’ve got three dedicated CBD seminars taking place in the theatres to bring you up to date with everything you need to know.”

Among the exhibitors showcasing CBD combinations at the show – everything from oils, creams, supplements and sprays to vapes, edibles, tinctures and balms – include:  Advance Biotech, Canabidol CBD Supplements, Cannabigold, CBD-Capital, CBDfx, CBD Manufacturing, CBD One, Celtic Wind Crops, Charlotte’s Web, Flawless CBD Distribution, Good Health Naturally, healthstrong., ImproveMe, KIKI Health, Living Planet Distribution, MariPharm, Minor Figures, Natra, Nature’s Aid, Nature’s Plus UK, NV Biotech and Vitality CBD.

As well as the range of health products on offer, there are also many innovative CBD-infused cosmetic, food and drink products to be discovered, ranging from sun cream and bath salts to chocolate and tea.

These include: 365 Nature (skincare, anti-aging, lip balms, ointments), Allure Organics (functional waters), Almighty Foods (chocolate), Cannabis Tea (loose leaf teas, teabags, peppermint blends), Humphrey’s CBD (juice drinks), Lovechock (chocolate) and Matcha NOW (CBD & Matcha drink), Uncle Bud’s (skincare, anti-aging, body care, suncare, pain relief, pet products) and Westlab Mineral Salts (bath salts).

“CBD’s flexible delivery methods (e.g. drops, tinctures, gummies, salves) and the increasingly relaxed legislation surrounding it could make it this year’s most in-demand stress, sleep and pain solution”, says Fiona Klonarides, founder of The Beauty Shortlist.

It’s not just the exhibitors who have embraced the trend – CBD is also a hot topic among this year’s speakers.

In the Natural Beauty Talks Theatre, biologist, herbalist and co-founder of Hemptouch, Silvija Špehar will be discussing the potential of cannabis for the cosmetics industry, including its many benefits for use in beauty products and the sustainable possibilities it offers (10.30am on Sunday 7 April).

CBD will also be under discussion in the Natural Products Talks Theatre, where Jacek Kramarz, co-founder of HemPoland (Cannabigold), will be giving a talk at both days of the show all about cannabinoids (1pm on Sunday 7 and 11am on Monday 8 April).  The much-anticipated session will cover everything from the differences between industrial hemp and ‘marihuana’ and regulation of cannabis and its derivatives, to different extraction methods and the therapeutic potential of phytocannabinoids.

Speaking about the show, Kramarz says: “Hemp foods and supplements have been forgotten for the past decades.  Hemp is back and there is no better place to update and educate about it than at Natural & Organic Products Europe.”
