The Free From Food & Health Ingredients Expo makes its return to Barcelona in 2022. The 9th edition of this leading international trade show will take place on June 7 and 8 at the Gran Via Fira de Barcelona exhibition centre, focusing on Free From, Organic, Vegan, Functional and Healthy Food and Ingredients solutions.
Free From Food Functional & Health Ingredients Expo
This international event, organized by Expo Business Communications, is the key place to connect the most innovative, healthy and environmentally conscious food and packaging products and brands with health and food professionals, retailers, horeca and hospitality buyers. With this uniqueness, Barcelona’s strategic location gives floor to the sustainable food trends that are shaping the future of the food sector.
“Food professionals in Spain have shown us that they are great partners when it comes to the offering and consumption of healthy food that improves the quality of life, and Barcelona is a very attractive city to do business and enjoy the overall business experience. Fira de Barcelona is certainly a very convenient and serious venue in which we can formally serve our Free From community”, says Ronald Holman, director of Free From Food & Health Ingredients.

Through its unique and innovative networking and matchmaking approach, the event will unveil the latest food and packaging innovations and latest trends and predictions, while providing valuable market insights relevant to the core segments of the exhibition. “Each segment lays claim to a healthy lifestyle and sustainability. They meet the demands that consumers place on lifestyle improving products, which are on a constant and increasing rise. At the same time, manufacturers are triggered to meet them at the same time as developing products that meet the current customer demands”, Holman points out.
The Free From sector, booming
The ‘Free From’ category encompasses a growing range of dietary needs and a powerful player in retail, being a market segment that continues to grow, both in terms of supply and demand. The 9th edition of Free From Food & Health Ingredients is the best place to discover the latest developments in lactose-free, gluten-free and allergen-free products, for instance.
The event is also the perfect platform for dietitians, health food stores and retailers in the Vegan, Functional food and Ingredients segments, who will find the latest innovations in plant-based products, vitamins, and food, diet and sports supplements.
Organic products are booming and trend-setting in the food industry, so their presence at the event is especially important. “We are very committed to the organic sector as 80% of our exhibitors are organic-certified, among other certifications”, claims Holman.
The organic sector continues to grow
Due to the conscious consumer mentality, the demand for food safety and awareness of health and environment benefits, organic products are increasingly adopted in the diets of consumers on a global scale.
The latest data on organic farming worldwide published by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL and IFOAM confirms a positive growth trend in the organic sector. More than 72.3 million hectares of farmland were organic in 2019, while the global organic food market reached 106 billion euros.
This continued development is an opportunity to transform European agriculture by putting organic at the centre. The European Commission approved the European Organic Action Plan 2021-2027 to contribute to the growth of the organic sector and the target of 25% organic production in the EU by 2030.
The plan recognizes organic production as a political tool to transform the reality of agriculture and food consumption in the European Union, by meeting the objectives set out in the Biodiversity and Farm to Fork strategies. The main objetive of the plan is to balance the necessary growth at the production level with a steady and sustained growth in demand. To achieve this, the budget allocations established and the measures envisaged are in line with the ambitious objectives, including new financial framework aimed at ensuring the organic transition of agri-food production, the development of national action plans and new budget allocations dedicated to the promotion of organic agri-food products at EU level.
Free From Expo: more than a trade show
Free From Food & Health Ingredients is more than a trade show. It is an opportunity to network, gain knowledge and do business. That is why producers, brand owners, researchers, food professionals, buyers and dietitians have joined the growing Free From community. “To strengthen healthy lifestyle claims on the products, trade shows make connections between buyer and supplier to keep up with this demand”, says Ronald Holman.
It is expected to bring together up to 8,500 visitors and 350 producers, manufacturers and key figures from the international industry over two days in Barcelona
The renewed program for the 9th edition is expected to bring together up to 8,500 visitors and 350 producers, manufacturers and key figures from the international industry over two days in Barcelona to take advantage of new trends and opportunities in this vibrant and established market.
The exhibition will also be accompanied by the Free From Expo Packaging, focused on the latest developments in sustainable packaging. This makes Free From Food & Health Ingredients the most foscused and established event in the Free From community. Pre-registration will open in early January 2022.
